Bill Holcomb, President
Buckeye Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc.

Dear Member,

Buckeye Rural Electric Cooperative is seeking letters of interest and resumes from cooperative members residing in Lawrence County who are interested in serving on the Board of Trustees. The selected individual will complete the remainder of the six-year term previously held by Jim Herrell, which expires in August 2030. Mr. Herrell recently resigned after eight years of dedicated service to the cooperative, and we thank him for his commitment to BREC and its members.

As a member-owned cooperative, BREC is governed by a board elected from and accountable to the membership. Trustees play a vital role in providing strategic direction, ensuring financial stewardship, establishing policy, and representing the interests of the members they serve.

Policy 110 provides an overview of trustee responsibilities and expectations. To fill this vacancy, the Board of Trustees will appoint a Trustee Search and Selection Committee to review applications and interview qualified candidates. Following the interview process, the committee will recommend a candidate to the full Board of Trustees for final selection.

Members interested in being considered should submit:

  • A letter of interest
  • A current resume
  • A completed Trustee Affirmation (Exhibit 110A)
  • An email address and other current contact information

Applications should be emailed to communications@buckeyerec.com, or mailed to PO Box 200, Rio Grande, OH 45674 and addressed to the BREC Trustee Search and Selection Committee. Applications must be postmarked no later than Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be a Buckeye Rural Electric Cooperative member in good standing
  • Maintain their primary residence on service provided by BREC
  • Reside in Lawrence County (District I)
  • Meet all qualifications outlined in the cooperative's governing documents

Trustee Commitment

Prospective applicants should carefully consider the responsibilities associated with board service. Regular board meetings are typically held on the last Monday of each month beginning at 5:00 p.m. and may exceed three hours, depending on the agenda. Trustees may spend up to 10 hours each month reviewing materials in preparation for meetings and are expected to be comfortable using technology to access board information and communications.

In addition to monthly board meetings, trustees may serve on committees that meet periodically throughout the year and may attend state, regional, and national meetings and conferences lasting two to three days. The Board considers trustee education and continuing training essential to effective governance and expects trustees to actively participate in learning opportunities.

BREC's Code of Regulations and additional governance documents may be found here.

If you have questions regarding the application process or trustee service, please contact us at communications@buckeyerec.com. We will make every effort to respond within 24 hours by email or telephone.

Serving as a trustee is an opportunity to help shape the future of your cooperative and represent the members of Lawrence County. We encourage interested and qualified members to consider this important leadership role.

Sincerely,

William Holcomb
